About the Artist

‍My artwork has its roots in particular places in Scotland I hold dear.

Working ‘en plein air’ in the first instance, quick sketches and notes capture the immediacy of the experience, and this material is then developed back at the studio. My aim is to convey a sense of a particular time and place, and what it felt like being there.

Using a range of medium and surfaces the scaled-up work steers a dynamic path between representation and expression to explore the interplay between the external and internal world.

Bringing your own experience to bear, you are invited to explore the colour, texture and sense of movement in the paintings and so share in these moments.

Born and bred in Ayr, Lindsay attended The Glasgow School of Art before spending several years in the Highlands. Returning to Ayr in 1979 brought a shift in focus in terms of further academic study in the Arts and a subsequent career with The Open University.

On retiring from the OU in 2016 she has enjoyed getting back to her artistic roots, participating in various part-time and summer courses at The Glasgow School of Art, North-West Highlands Art and Lund Studios, Yorkshire.

She joined Ayr Sketch Club as an artist member in 2021 and since then has exhibited locally with ASC, and individually in galleries in Ayrshire, Dunblane, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Now with tenancy of her own WASPS studio Lindsay is looking forward to working at scale.
